Floating night club sinks
The Sea Dragon, a 300-ton floating restaurant and nightclub, sank in the Singapore harbour on this day. It was towed from the breakwater to a new anchorage a few yards from the shore at Clifford Pier, but sprung a leak shortly after. Completely submerged was the nightclub in the hold, where mini-skirted girls in fishnet stockings used to serve drinks and food. An operation to re-float it began immediately and a salvage team of 12, including four divers, worked to save the furnishings and equipment.
